The Bureau is a European Highlander team currently competing in ETF2L Premiership.

Team History

Origins

The Bureau was founded in 2014 for The Highlander Open. The original team name was "The Bureau of Military Science", however it was shortened to The Bureau as the military science bit made the team name sound a bit naff. However, the old tag "BMS" is still used occasionally.

The vast majority of Bureau players started playing during or after The Highlander Open.

Rise to Premiership

After The Highlander Open, The Bureau reformed to play ETF2L Season 7 in Division 5B, where Chronos gave up his role as demoman picking up the medi gun instead and remaining The Bureau's main caller ever since. The team had a shaky start to the season as a reform combined with having the hardest group left them in 5th place in the main season, many players were disheartened after this season and left which led Chronos to reform the team and Scrambled, the sub heavy at the time, to take a few players to begin The Agency which would later pass players like Apex, yahoo and Scrambled on to The Bureau.

The Bureau initially planned to use UGC Season 15 as a test season to trial new players. They lost the first game, which could be attributed to inexperience, as they were undefeated for the rest of the season, beating TC: Express rather convincingly in the final. At this point The Bureau were aiming to take a winning team to compete in the High Tier of ETF2L's Season 8.

The Bureau began Season 8 convincingly. But due to losing their main scout, demoman, heavy and sniper, who were all very important players to The Bureau, they were unable to make playoffs, leading them to reform the team for the next season.

After trialing several new players in the Experimental Highlander One-Night-Cup #7, which lead The Bureau to picking up ixy as scout, dd5f as soldier, kuli as demo and Afirax as sniper, the team's new roster was fairly completed for ETF2L's Season 9 High Tier. The Bureau's reform turned out to be incredibly dominant, dropping only a single map during the regular season and one map in the Grand Finals. Even though there were many internal issues with the team, especially revolving around the heavy spot, there were only few teams in High that were able to contest them. The Bureau strived for first place since the start and eventually won High securing direct promotion to ETF2L's Season 10 Premiership Tier.

Premiership

As newcomers The Bureau went in to Season 10 to try to solidify their position as a Premiership level team. Chronos, at the start of the season, said that the team should be aiming at least for playoffs and ideally for 3rd place. The team dropped points between week 3 and 5 that they were unhappy about. A few players had other commitments and the roster was forced to be changed in mid season. Scrambled, despite being removed from the team during Season 9, repraised his role as heavy replacing Simba and Scriptzon picked up the sniper rifle replacing BeS. Regardless, The Bureau were still able to compete and took points off of their remaining fixtures. After some controversy regarding points lost for warnings, The Bureau finished in 4th place nonetheless taking the last playoff spot. Beating Highpander in the first round of playoffs but losing to Strong Opinions in the Semi Final afterwards, The Bureau became 3rd overall.

The team is currently set to take on ETF2L's Season 11 with ambition to improve.
